Devan Jacobsen Cello and Guitar Teacher



As a Teacher

Devan Jacobsen believes that every child has the innate potential to become a great musician. He believes that a “one size fits all” approach does not work for everyone; he wants to learn his student’s learning style so that the student can unlock their musical potential. Along with the learning styles, he want’s his student’s to develop independent learning skills because students are their own teacher at home. Many of his lessons are built around developing strategies on how to practice. He also makes a personalized practice schedules for his students to follow. These schedules are a combination of fundamentals and repertoire.

Since 2022, he has gained teaching experience through teaching private lessons in many music schools around Los Angeles, tutoring advanced music theory at Mt. San Antonio College, and by teaching group classes. He is also a teaching artist with Harmony Project and teaches their introductory, beginner, and intermediate cello classes.

He offers 45 minute and 1 hour lessons for cello and classical guitar for students of an introductory, beginner, and intermediate level. He is capable of teaching students 6 and up.


As a Performer

As a cellist, Devan has performed with many local symphonies such as Culver City Symphony, Los Angeles Symphony, Tehachapi Symphony, and Synesthesia Sinfonietta. While in college and university, he has also performed with several piano trios, piano quartets, string quartets, and string trios. He has also played in several churches worship teams and orchestras including Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, Sandals Church, and Magnolia Church. He has performed in venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Daniel Recital Hall, Feddersohn Recital Hall, and the Carpenter Performing Arts Center.

As a guitarist, Devan has played with several classical guitar ensembles such as the Mt. San Antonio Guitar Ensemble, the Santa Ana Guitar Ensemble, and the Orange County Guitar Orchestra. While at Mt. San Antonio College, Devan has also played in several of their bands. He was also a band director on guitar for a baptist church for over 3 years.
